-----Food-----
$17 for all you can eat lunch buffet. Pretty decent food.
-----Condition-----
Very clean and well maintained.
-----Service-----
Satisfactory
-----Cosmetics-----
Average looking East Indian restaurant right at the base of the Calgary tower.
-----Accessibility-----
Very minimal street parking, will have to find a parkade most likely if you are driving. If you are taking transit it is a 2-3 min walk from the station. -

Don't let the staged photos fool you, nor the ocassional good reviews. The restaurant is very tired in appearance, and not very clean. Stained menus, sticky table, grubby front door glass, and very dated furniture. But hey, great food can (sometimes) make up for a deficient atmosphere, although lack of cleanliness is unforgiveable.
To the food, my garlic naan was totally unremarkable. And no tarmarind sauce or mint chutney accompaniments as is traditional. I did ask for tamarind sauce and promptly got it, and used the coriander chutney from my main to round it out. My main, "Jumbo" Shrimp Tandori, was well prepared but the shrimp were absolutely tiny. Not even "large" by any standard, nevertheless "jumbo". So although the meal was completely functional, it was worthy of many changes including either upgrading the shrimp size or changing the menu description.
Net net, very disappointing for my one dinner out in Calgary. I'm just glad I didn't choose to take a client there. It would have been embarassing. Surprised it can survive across from the convention center, but maybe the lunch buffet is their thing, and/or visiting out of town folks don't have the experience with Indian cuisine for which to compare this to. -

I've tried two other Indian places in Calgary and this one by far is my favorite. I docked one star because the garlic naan bread was underwhelming - it was by no means bad, just that I did not (a) taste the garlic and (b) it wasn't anything special. It did have the right structure though - not too thick, not too thin.
I came here for lunch and opted to order off the menu versus eating the buffet. I ordered the veggie samosas, lamb korma, garlic naan, and a "classic lemonade" to wash it all down. The samosas were good, you get 3 in an order, and it's delicious with the green sauce that comes with it. The lamb korma, so far, is the best in town that I've had. The sauce was creamy and flavorful, not too thing or watered down.
The special highlight for me though was the "classic lemonade" which is made with touches of mint and ginger. I decided to give this lemonade a try because I love mint and I love ginger, but what I didn't expect was for this drink to come out carbonate. IT. WAS. AWESOME. I haven't had a carbonate lemonade since I moved out of Ecuador and it was a wonderful surprise to my lunch. I wish more places had carbonated lemonades or a "limonada imperial" as it's known in Ecuador.
Thank you, Maharajah East Indian Restaurant, for actually giving me a pleasant meal as they have been in short supply here since I've been in Calgary. I will be definitely be back. -

Nice little place right downtown in YYC. Broad menu, nice atmosphere and polite/attentive staff. Dining room stayed relatively quiet but I believe a lot of their orders are delivery/takeout. A little bit on the pricier side since everything is a la carte but definitely worth it.

Tried this place for dinner after a long day. Ordered deep fried paneer. Very good with nice sauces and solid naan.
Main dish was paneer in a creamy tomato sauce. Nothing spectacular but just fine.
Wouldn't go there for a business dinner.
